I talk to a woman in Minnesota during the winter & she laughs when I say it got cold last night, say 42 F.But during a hot spell here, it
is still 89 at 11:00 pm & already 83 at 7 in the morning. In my younger days I worked all summer out in the sun when it was 97-98 in the shade, w/ 55% humidity & not a breath of wind. When the sun went behind a cloud for a second, you almost shivered.

What you have to remember is that this weather isn't the norm in blighty so we are just not used to it. The average summer temperature (June to August) for the UK is just 26C/79F, the average for London is just 21C/70F.

As someone who rarely has the central heating much above 18-20 degrees C in winter and who sleeps with both bedroom windows wide open whatever the temperature, I can say wholeheartedly that...
... I HATE THIS FUCKING WEATHER!!!

I know this ain't no cyber-chondriac chatsite, but sometimes I get mild panic attacks (palpitations etc) before sleep when too hot, or have been over-exposed to heat during the day- what is this?

I've had the same... tight chest, palpitations and breathlesness... and the hotter/closer it is the worse they are. About two weeks ago I woke up with a start at about 3.00am and I really thought I was going to die of a heart attack I felt so uncomfortable. I went to the casualty dept. of my local hospital and one of the nurses said the number of people suffering similar symptoms had increased drastically over the last few years.
Apparently it's to do with both the heat and the crap in the atmosphere on hot days.

You can add Jacques to that club, thought I was an asthmatic but doc says a combination of pollution, low level ozone and heat and humidity is to blame.

The Weather men reckon that over the next 20-50 yrs, the temperature will steadily increase over here, to an average of at least 3 degrees hotter than the last year or 2 every 3 years, MINIMUM! !hmmm! !shocked!

Sorry to hear that, guys............. I get it infrequently.
It may worsen as I get older, although I have no nervous disorders or any heart condition.
Interesting to hear the theory on the atmosphere............. my own diagnoses are: 1. that I am very susceptible to heatstroke; 2. as i sweat in the heat, a lot of bodily electrolytes (salts, minerals, metallic elements) are lost and not replaced. Being a trial-and-error type and purely by accident, I had a couple of yoghurts and milk when going thriough a spate of these 'heat-attacks'- and it helped! Calcium/ potassium levels must have been replenished.....who knows?
hell, it's scary when it happens.

Well here in the states it's been hot EVERYWHERE and we had storms to top it off and to add insult to injury the storms knocked the power out in some places. Imagine it being hot AND having no power!
