There are two such cinemas in B'ham both centrally located, one within spurting distance of New Street station and I can only vouch for this one. There were no fumblings that I was aware of, and there was a stripper, all for ?10. The vids/dvds are well priced @ around ?40 for a R18. I think I made a post about this matter some time ago, use the search facility with cinema as the keyword.

I remember a cinema chain called Tatler in cities certainly in the North of England. They showed s/c, mainly American and I fondly remember the comfort of discovering the lovely Uschi Digard, Marsha Jordan, and early Candy Samples stuff.

I also verified the authenticity of this establishment some months ago. I visited it frequently in the early 1980's and it was a flea pit of a place, the carpet had a tendency to 'stick' to your shoes, the toilet smelt like a stale sperm bank, the films were 16mm Swedish loops and the strippers were hounds. Then it was called The Sunset Cinema Club and was situated behind the bus station next to New Street Station.
I had reason to visit Chinatown in Birmingham last year and went along to see if The Sunset was still standing. It was and VERY upmarket too!!

I used to go to the Continentale in Brighton back around '84
when I was about 19. I've also tried out a lot of German ones in various cities over there. The big trouble with all of them is
that they are absolutely infested with slimy repellant old
queers who think you want them to sit next to you or else hover
along the side walls gazing at the audience presumably in the hope of an invitation. They have basically become gay cruising
venues and the irritation factor is unbearable. If the places
were simply full of cockroaches it would be a mercy. I know a place in Saarbruecken which closed down in the past four months
precisely because of these 'people'.
As for the Continentale I like to think that it was closed down
after I delivered a well deserved right hook to one of them but it was actually closed down to appease the local Millie Tants.

The cinema owned by J.L.was the Taboo in Little Newport Street in London's West End.This was during the mid-70's,remained open for about a year before being closed down by the authorities.
I knew J.L.at the time,lovely character.
This was real h/c not softcore like the other cinemas were showing in the West-End or around other parts of the country.
The cinema was situated in the basement with a small screen & a 16mm projector-you had to be a club member though.
This is now part of porn history from the long past.Today their is nothing like this at all-instead it's now done through your video recorder along with your bag of crisps and remote control.
Mark you-it must of cost a fortune keep replacing the 16mm copies after each police raid.

Facinating, Moby. I can't say I noticed the cruising aspect of the Continentale, but the raincoats...oh yes! The most galling thing about the Millie Tant type Wimmin who managed to close the place down is that you can bet that they all moved into the area knowing full well there was a seedy little cinema there, and then decided to kick up a fuss about it.
