If his Fagin is particularly memorable, bear in mind that it was deemed anti-semetic when the film was made (not long after the end of the war).

For sheer effortless acting, however, just watch him at work (given the pace of the drama, "in action" is inappropriate) in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Leading a stellar cast, he still dominates when Richardson, Hepton, Reid, Bannen, Bate, Bennett et al are firing on all cylinders.
