Jacques,

Freedom of speech is a quintessential part of democracy and security is compromised if freedom of speech is censored.

The difference between the Bible and the Koran is that Muslims believe the Koran is the direct word of God, issued straight to the Prophet Mohammed. It is therfore not open to interpretation or discussion. We all know the Bible consists of many books written over hundreds of years by many different hands. But for a Muslim, the Koran was dictated to Mohammed directly from God, so it is the absolute unvarnished word of God, and hence not up for debate in any way size shape or form.

I think I heard the same imam on 5 live, and he could not really deny what Nick Griffin had said (which did not surprise me, as I was sure he would have been bright enough to actually quote from the Koran in his speech), but merely mumbled some rubbish to the effect that it was meant to tell a man how he should treat his concubines. Well that's all right then.

The fact remains that the Prophet Mohammed is the only leader of a major world religion who in his time led an army, killed, looted, took slaves and "concubines" (which in my view makes him pretty close to a rapist, if not an actual one). Given that background, and the fact that Islam was literally spread at the point of a sword, and it is hardly surprising that violent psychopaths across the world find it easy to justify their crimes in the name of Islam.
