Humans have a morbid curiosity and it's pretty normal in all walks of life.
Cattle will run from the lion until one is caught. They then watch one of their herd being killed nervously when it may be better to run away a bit further. Baboons watch one of their own from the bank, while a crocodile pulls the head off another baboon. Not concious acts but maybe an essential behavioural act? Was it Plato who said 'man learns through suffering'? Something Christianity took on board and they're probably right. Watching the death of your own kind is maybe a natural trait to keep you on your toes?
We all see crowds around accidents, and cars slowing down on the motorway. I've not viewed Saddam's hanging yet, but I can't promise I won't give in to the curiosity, even though I was against his execution.

I really never got a kick out of it either. Only reason I watched it was to see if it was really Saddam. Video is shakey but it LOOKS like Saddam.

Re: Saddam Execution
I agree Keith, filming someones death is very wrong...But then there are those who ffel that way about porn too.
The sad fact of it all is that there are certain individuals who revel in this stuff.
I had no problems watching the saddam execution because it was filmed so badly you couldnt feel the real brunt of it and furthermore we see people dying all the time in movies which is more vivid than the Saddam execution and thats entertainment!
Life truly has become cheap

Re: Saddam Execution
Saddam?s execution was typical of the whole Iraq fiasco.
If it was necessary to execute him (and I?m not sure it was) it should have been done in a dignified, respectful and professional manner. That includes not allowing it to be filmed by some toe rag with a smuggled mobile phone!
It was a complete and utter disaster.
I always thought John Prestcott was the biggest clown in the government, but even he can see what debacle it has been.
Saddam was bad, but the new government is no better.
I doubt any of Europe's first democratic governments were great compared to today. Give them time as it's not sensible to judge them on their first 6 months of democracy ever.
