O/t Public Executions? In the West?

Its ok Phototaker this is the off topic forum after aLL with regards to what you mentioned in your last post. People are more fed up than you realise. Its the powers that be, the administration that wont ever allow it to happen but I'm with Sam on this, at least with life sentences people who were innocent of a crime can have their moment to be proven innocent.

And yes it is a serious indictment of our government if they should allow this to happen. Heavens forfend if you should get accused of raping and murdering someone just because a piece of fluff was found on them from your sofa. You'd be all up in arms screaming your innocence while being dragged kicking to the gallows. Now that would be a terrible shame especially when all your friends on here would be saying what a nice man you were and they couldnt believe you did such a heinous crime.

Revenge is an emotive act, would you agree? Then emotions shouldn't play any part when dealing with life & death situations because the biggest mistakes usually happen when emotions run high.

I'm not saying I'm for open prisons with people being released early, but killing criminals like animals isn't the sort of thing any 21st century society should be doing.

I bet most families who've had a loved one murdered would like to see the murderer caught and executed. They'd probably get a little short term satisfaction, but I'd hazard a guess that if you asked them 12 months later they'd rather the killer be rotting in a jail cell.

I doubt there's any real closure and long term satisfaction with taking a life for a life. The victim can never be brought back and will always be missed. The killer can never be killed suffering as much pain, confusion and terror as the original victim either.

What of the victims that are slowly tortured & raped before death? Must society lower themselves to that level for a little revenge?

One achieved it may be sweet, but the pining for revenge festers in the mind, which leaves the feeling of hatred, and poisons life.

I have no idea what he means either. But if he wants to tell us we should introduce public executions in Europe: this has been tried before. In fact this was common practice well into the nineteenth century. There was no rise in crime statistics when executions were no longer carried out in public.
