I think any of this New Labour crowd would be appalled to be called socialists.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about.

Ruth Kelly's actions are perfectly acceptable middle class behaviour, very much in keeping with New Labour's whole ideology.

On a brighter note, if they continue morphing into the Conservative party any further they'll be trying to woo back "the working people" pretty soon.

but who else did the same...

To right, old son. Kier Hardie must be turning in his grave now all these ?progressive? bourgeois fuckers have hijacked his party and diverted it away from serving the interests of the respectable proletariat, in favor of scumbags, wasters, illegal immigrants, asylum seekers and third world fuckers of which we know (and care) little. Indeed, the present bourgeois Labour party seems a little uncomfortable (embarrassed, even) with real working folk and their unsophisticated, reactionary, ?small c? conservative views. Some of them are even hostile, branding working folk ?racists? and umpteen other bullshit ?ists?. But what goes around comes around, and working people are beginning to see who they are really being kept in their place by, who they are really being shafted by. Our patience is wearing thin, and, come the revolution?.

The Right Wingers certainly are not innocent. They can be ruthless bastards - no ruth whatsoever ! I've worked for some of them and they can be heartless without any sense of guilt.

My gripe with the Left is how they point the finger at others for doing what they indulge in themselves. Its rare to hear a conservative criticise someone else for being rich for example.

That fair enough criticism, but there's nothing left wing about Ruth Kelly. She's a member of Opus Dei!

People do have short memories. And don't forget a lot of adults today are too young to remember how desperately grim Britain was under the Tories, or how exciting it was when Blair first came to power.

But Blair deserves a lot of the blame for the disillusion. The man's a Tory to the core, and so are his close friends in the cabinet. Somehow our long-awaited Labour government got derailed by a bunch of right wing cunts who might enjoy their champagne, but don't have a shred of socialist belief. Bastards.
