Recordings?

Who's talking about recordings?

I was talking about bands that were better than Van Halen from 1978. It doesn't matter if they never even made an album; a band proves its true worth on stage, not in the comfort of a studio.

Rainbow, Thin Lizzy (with Gary Moore) and Queen were also better bands than Van Halen, of course.

The guitarists in 'early Whitesnake' were Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody.

A guitarist who can't keep in tune and is so inept at string-changing that he has to invent a method of remaining on one string, a bassist who loses track of the key and is frequently late on chord changes, a drummer who seems to know no more than three patterns and an alehouse singer do not a great band make.

Live in 1978, they were the probably best US band around. Aerosmith were drug induced zombies and KISS were up their own arses selling fucking merchandise. Cheap Trick were the best out of the bunch till VH hit the ground running.
After 1984, they nose-dived. Dave Lee Roth played it safe after his solo ep and enlisted Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan who in manys eyes, were better than EVH and Michael Anthony.
Result? DLR continued to sell millions, whereas VH lost the plot with piss poor offerings.

Oh my....lol.
I said the first six Whitesnake albums, of which five were Marsden and Moody.
Rainbow - Frequently descended into pointless, elongated jam sessions. Might as well go and see ELP
Thin Lizzy - Great live, possibly, but why is their legendary live album 75% studio work then?
Queen - Okay
Naturally you're aware that Eddie didn't invent two handed tapping O sage of rock. From the rock scene Steve Hackett was two handed tapping on "The Return of the Giant Hogweed" which was released in 1971.
You don't half come across as a bitter guy that the Yanks were doing your precious rock and roll better than the brits.

For a brief period on stage, the Yanks WERE better with their OTT costumes, dry ice, massive lighting rigs, pyrotechnics, lasers, elevating drum risers...........but their music was still 'average' at best.
However, I DO acknowledge that The New York Dolls and The Ramones DID give the music industry a good kick up the arse with their bare to to bone music without the wanky stage shows and flash cunt tricks to enhance the music.
Mind you, some British bands particually in the prog-rock era need to be erased from the archives...........wanky middle class bollocks with 45 minute Hammond Organ solos, 20 minute drum solo's.........at least the Yanks, to their credit, sterred away from that!!

Oh I beg to differ on Van Halen! My favorite group. But I do agree on UFO as around that time in '78 they played and recorded a live album here in Chicago which is when I really got a shot of them on the radio.
