I remember Cat Stevens occassionally helping out at Jimmy's Greek restaurant in Soho, his family owned it I believe. By coincidence I had a girlfriend who lived in the flat underneath his in Shaftesbury Avenue. Saw him a perform a couple of times in the mid 70's thanks to free seats! Like him better now than I did then. Tea for the Tillerman is a great LP.

He lives just around the corner from me and funds the local Muslim school... cool geezer and good musician, although I'll never trust someone 100% who "got religion".

I've had a special soft spot for him ever since the "land of the free" denied him entry a few years ago.

What really annoys me about his "conversion" following nearly drowning while on holiday, was the fact he converted to Islam, (Before you ask, I have no animosity towards Islam). Why didn't he just decide to become a better person without the religious connotations?
He incidentally owes Rick Wakeman about ?17 from donkeys years ago, which, when he was Cat Stevens conveniently forgot about, but when Wakeman recounted the tail, a couple of years ago, "Yusef" came across all grovely and offered to pay it back; to which Rick Wakeman replied: "He can go and shove it up his arse!"
I bet his Greek Orthodox father was well chuffed at his conversion to Islam.
I don't like his music either, years ago, round at my mates house, we had to listen to his older brother constantly playing Cat Stevens records and it did my head in.
