Watched it after the Chelsea Match, but.......

Fucking Hell !

That was fantastic!!

Here's my 2 1/2p worth.

Sam is in 1973 and what Morgan is telling him is the truth.

Sam doesn't believe this and thinks he's still in a coma about to wake up.

Morgan tells him his job is done and he can go home so he walks towards a white light.

His mind creates the waking up scene and the 2007 world he thinks he's from. Only it doesn't feel right. "Feel" being the key word here and used throughout the episode.

He knows something is wrong in the boring meeting and this is confirmed when he cuts himself but doesn't feel anything.

So he has to shake himself free from the world his mind has created and jumps off police HQ. Reference to episode one here.

This brings him back to reality and he knows what he has to do.

So, in the end he's happy to be in 1973 because it is real. Re-tuning the radio at the end is him re-tuning his mind to 1973.

Of course I've probably misinterpreted everything and will see it differently after I've slept on it.

Fantastic, BAFTA winning stuff though.

There has already been a cinematic version of The Sweeney, in 1977.

It was called Sweeney! and starred Regan as Regan and Carter as Carter.

And then Sweeney 2.....Danny Dyer? Kieron Dyer would do a better job!

It could be interpreted in any one of a dozen ways, and your take on it is as valid as anyone else's. It'd be nice to think he'd carry on in a perpetual 1973.

That ones been bandied about a few months now. By all accounts, the actors you mentioned were best choices to play Carter and Reagan, but nothing is in production yet, although scripts are being written and re-written

Would they be the same in his world, though?

The Colonel has hit the nail on the head. On returning to his own time, the first thing he would have done would be to check on what happened to Annie, Gene and the others. As far as we know, he didn't. The 1973 he inhabits is perhaps a world of his own invention.

Have to say, if I was back in the real 1973, with the knowledge I have of now, Sutcliffe, the Wests, Shipman, Robert Black and a few others would be meeting unfortunate accidents. Margaret Thatcher would be found in a compromising tryst with Jeremy Thorpe and Norman Scott's Alsatian, and Tony Blair would be taken for a drunken night out, and would wake up in a north African fort having signed up for 20 years in the Foreign Legion.
