Why should Scotland leave the EU.
Through my taxes I have contributed to it so therfore I should benefit from it also.

Salmond is a gradre A tosser.
My notions of independence do not stem from SNP propaganda- I think we'd have a tiger economy, based on oil, tourism and whisky. There are faults, as you mention, C.
As for the union, as we stand, we are party ot the whims of a sinister American regime and under the 'leadership' of Blair, he presents the perfect doormat for idiot Republicans to walk over. As an independant nation, we don't have to be party to this.... but we can keep the door open for obese, dimwitted, rich yankee tourists who, replete with "Gee, I love your accent"and "I so love your countreeeeeeee" can keep the coffers topped up.
The UK is going tits up. I think we'd be better off as a union with Scandanavia- we have more traits in common, are quite liberal and unpretentious like them also. Materialism, the class system and inbred snobbery comes from down South, IMHO.

There's plenty of all of those up here too, Fudgey. But it would be nice to have some kind of working arrangement with the Scandinavian countries and Ireland.
Telling the Septic government where to get off would be wonderful, too, but that's a pipe dream. The US doesn't take kindly to those who fail to show it due respect (the "respect" being the same kind demanded by any street thug in any city here). If we could be sure of severing that tie, of knocking back Trident, and of improving the health and education systems up here while providing a decent lifestyle for all our people, then I'd vote independence tomorrow. Priority one for the Nats, though, is allowing their slimy leader to take the reins of power.

I`d never support Scottish independance but I can`t say Connery is a hypocrite. If I had his money I`m fucking sure I`d be off too. Can`t fault him for that.
But erm for Scotland to have an industry wouldn`t that mean Scottish people would have to work? What about all the lazy fat bastasrds falsely claiming disability benefits?

The lazy bastards claiming benefit when there's nothing wrong with them isn't a purely Scottish problem. There are sponging pieces of shit in all parts of the UK, some almost dynasties of claimants---and incidentally, they tend to eb the ones most vocal about immigrants coming into the country; afraid someone else might muscle into their action. The something for nothing ethos is almost a national disease.
A hypocrite is someone who claims to be a proud patriot, while living somewhere else. He's not been exiled, so what stops him living here? Other Scots actors have to work in Hollywood, but still come home regularly.

mrchapel - Are you Scottish?
If you are not you will have no say in Scotland gaining independance.
It's statements like yours that has been the backbone of the problem of unity between the nations of United Kingdom.

proud to be a scot.
but it was this patriotism that forced us into a union in the first place. tried to build a small commonwealth of our own and underestimated the true cost of ownership.
Take note that hindsight is a wonderful thing
no vote is a wasted vote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That piece of colonialisation was the midwife for the UK. Darien has often been blamed on the English, with them wanting to see Scotland fail and doing their best to ensure it happened. In reality, as wannabe says, it was Scotland over-reaching----and the English bailed us out, with the Act of Union the price we paid.
But the next century saw a shift. The Jacobite uprisings apart (and they didn't have much support in the central belt and lowland Scotland), Scotland settled into its role, and produced some of the greatest thinkers of the time. Check out a book called The Scottish Enlightenment (written by an American with no Scottish ancestry) if you are at all interested.
