So she is currently in shallow water looking very sorry for her self and on a STRICT nil by mouth diet for the next few days. Then we start on the shelled frozen peas....sort of all bran for fish aparently. So im hoping this does the job. Cant bring me self to do the alternative....

Does your fish ever jump out the bowl mine did once or twice?

A fish I had when I was a kid used to do that alot. Had to put him in the pond because of it. A couple of things can cause it apparently. Either ticks, lice or....sexual frustration!!

They are more like us than we could ever have imagined lol

Cheers

The 'alternative' being flushed down the toilet?

Evening Ace!!

Its slightly worse than the toilet. One of the sites I looked on "advised" throwing the fish against a hard stone floor. Good grief....what if the neighbours kids saw that?

But thankyou for the well wishes....will pass them on lol

Fish jumping out....

I noticed one morning some fish jumping out of the water of my pond, then saw a dead golden orfe.... I had five and about 10 normal goldfish.
It was only the remaining orfe jumping up.
Anyhow had to go to work, and whilst at work realised the reason but when I got home it was to late. All five of the orfe had died yet the goldfish were fine.
The day before I had tied a house brick to the bottom of the pond pump. This was to keep the pump off the bottom and away from all the sludge that was blocking it.
The brick must have leached chemicals (saltpeter (sodium nitrate)) into the pond and the golden orfe were jumping trying to escape the poisoning. Yet the goldfish were not affected at all.

Good luck with your goldie.

I'd guess throwing the fish against a hard floor seems more humane if you think about it.

Being flushed down a toilet would disorientate the fish, may give it a heart attack, and then if it survives will have to deal with human excrement, urine, and the burning sensation of tonnes of bleaching agents, and other chemicals. The fish will be unable to get enough oxygen through it's gills in such an environment and either will die by having it's skin, eyes, and insides being disintegrated by the bleach, before finally being poisoned to death, or it will just be asphyxiated due to the gills being unable to extract enough oxygen from the poor water.

I never understood why the 'flushing' procedure always was thought upon as humane.

I really hope it turns out ok BB, but if things come to the worst, squash it fast. Don't make it suffer the humiliation of drowning in the neighbourhoods piss.
