I seem to recall that Italy had a terrible record in penalty shoot outs like England but have won their last two in the semi final of Euro 2000 and in the World Cup Final 2006 to be crowned world champions not bad timing for your fortunes to change!!!!

What is it about England and penalty shoots any suggestions????

I have one, I cannot remember Scotland ever losing a penalty shoot out so why can't the Jocks give us some lessons.... then I remembered the reason Scotland have never lost a penalty shoot out in a major tournament is because the Jocks have long gone home by the time penalty shoot outs are needed in major tournaments. They have the consistent habit of either not qualifying or losing in the first round and more often than not it is because they have not even qualified in the first place!!!!

Short memories mate you refer as far back as 1974 in your post.

It may surprise you to know that when England did not qualify in 1974 and 1978 that I did support Scotland!!!!

But who can forget the comedy performance against Peru and the might Iran but great performance against Holland I must admit. Great player, Archie Gemmill.

It wasnt until I was older I recall only 4 years after the Falklands War people nooth of the border wearing Argentina tops cheering on the cheats 'Hand of God'.

Chins has a population of over a billion and they are crap at football as well!!!!

Get over the chip on your shoulder.

The point has been made many, many times before. If the Scots want to see England fail it's due to the English media hyping them up to ridiculous expectation level.

Incidentally, it's the same reason I dislike Jenson Button.

Fair enough Caratacus, point taken! The English press can be over the top if our team does well.

Remember the front page headline before the Euro 96 semi final against the Germans 'For you Fritz the tournament is over'

I think Jenson Button is over rated as well!

Yes Scotland are doing well in a very difficult group with both World Cup finalists and the Ukraine but I cannot see Scotland qualifying. Class will shine through eventually I am afraid.

England are struggling for which I mainly blame the manager, Steve McClaren. I know a lot of Middlesbrough fans and they were really pleased he left because of his boring negative football and refusal to take a risk!!!! I certainly was not one of these fans who wanted an English born manager only. I wanted the best avaliable candidate to get the job someone like Guus Hiddink.

I certainly did not agree with McClaren's decision to drop Beckham but at least he saw sense in the end.

England will still qualify as we will beat Croatia, Russia (despite who their manager is) and Israel at home. Class will shine through eventually.

After all we havent got knocked out on penalties yet!!!!
but you remind me of why so many Scots wrongly think all English people are triumphalist morons.
Now Wazza, Wazza, Wazza...........

Triumphalist? The English? We've not had anything to be triumphalist about for aaaaages! !laugh!
