One of my best live moments was when I was in Vegas one year, there was nowhere to sit other than right in front of the band that was playing in the Mirage hotel.
I was with three hot Brit babes as the band played, they were good, and in their repertoire they began to play Sex Machine by the Godfather of soul, then through the crowd and on to the stage popped the great man himself, along side him was Luther Vandross. James took the mic off the lead singer, Luther got on the keyboards, and He then said "I think this is my song" And sang Sex Machine" As I was right in front of him about two feet away, and had three stunner's with me he sang the song for our table. It was an unbelievable moment for me. three chicks. Vegas and James Brown.

Yes. As a matter of fact my late brother knew Dennis Yost, & my brother built some speaker cabinets for the bass player, who was in a local cover band with him before the Classics IV hit it big. Also, the drummer from said cover band went on to The Atlanta Rhythm Section, & did drums on some of Skynyrd's early studio stuff.

I guess it was around 1971 that I saw them. They did a 30 minute 'Thick As a Brick.' Ian IIRC was wearing lavender tights w/ a black pubic patch. I was very interested to see them recently from even earlier, on a PBS showing of the long-suppressed 'Rolling Stones Circus' British show--quite possibly Brian Jones' last appearance w/ the group. (Great show almost ruined by Yoko's caterwauling.)

I am 57 years old so some of my acts go way back:

The Who (twice) - once in their "mod" phase, once in their "Tommy" phase.

Traffic (best live pop/rock act I have ever seen)

Taste and then Rory Gallager solo

King Crimson (when they started out, at the time of "Court of the Crimson King")

Family, great band

Deep Purple at the Albert Hall. Walked out after 10 minutes when the prat of a lead guitarist started dragging his guitar face down on the edge of the stage. I was a Clapton fan and wanted to see guitar playing.

Cat Stevens at the Albert Hall (my then wife was a Cat Stevens fan)

Moody Blues (my then wife was a Moody Blues fan)

Hyde Park gig with Rolling Stones, Family, King Crimson etc (1969). Just after Brian Jones died and Jagger released all those butterfiles.

Hyde Park gig with Blind Faith (Clapton, Winwood, Baker, Grech), first supergroup.

Never saw Cream but after they split up saw Clapton, Bruce and Baker with various other bands (Clapton with Delaney and Bonney and Bruce with Jack Bruce band etc)

Tony Williams Lifetime with Jack Bruce on Bass and John McLoughlin on Guitar. Tony Williams was a jazz drummer who had played with Miles Davis. He was the most amazing drummer I have ever seen. Not flash but so intricate and controlled.

I also went to the Bath festival in 1970, more on that in next append.

The back-up guys from Delaney & Bonnie (after the two leads went their separate ways) (IIRC) went on to work w/ Clapton & Clive Davis at Miami's Criterion Studios, the fall of 1970. Duane Allman was called in to assist, & the result was 'Layla.'
Triva question (undoubtedly unfair for a U. K. audience): what early 70's cult-following movie did Delaney & Bonnie & Friends appear in? (Hint: out in the desert of the American Southwest.) (Another hint: vrroooommmmm.....)

I was at the Bath festival 1970.

Amazing Line up, imagine this lot today:

Pink Floyd, Santana, Led Zepplin, Byrds, Moody Blues, Jefferson Airplane, Fairport Convention, Frank Zappa, Canned Heat, Country Joe, Donovan, Dr John and more

But the rain came and most groups refused to go on due to danger of electric shock. The running order went out the window and I have to say I never saw about a third of the groups.

Went back to my tent and was woken at 3am by sounds of Pink Floyd wafting across the fields.

More on the festival here:

Amazing if you look at the original running order here (scroll down):

Many of the groups were given just over an hour (including getting on off time), Sanata and Byrds for example.
