The deal here locally now is that you can smoke in bars that serve hard liquor (not that common nowadays, licenses are hard to get & pricey), but in 'pubs' that mainly serve food, along w/ beer & wine, you can't. I find this a reasonable accommodation. I hate & despise smoking, but I don't like taking individual freedoms away either.Let the market decide, as much as is practical.

when this law comes in, i bet there's a dramatic increase in child asthma. It will mean that parents smoke at home in front of their kids, and probably as you say mrmacfister, with the windows shut.

...and child abuse. The parents stopping home to get pissed instead of going out may put more kids on the receiving end of some drunken slaps.
Still, if smoking and drinking in front of your children seems acceptable then it tells me more about the parents selfishness than this new law. It's not 1971 anymore and parents haven't the excuse of ignorance these days.
