Just a thought. Not sure how much luck you'll have selling a film with one girl in it though.

Ok, Jason, so you're experienced. Fine. You have contacts in the US and mainland Europe. Great. You've stressed that you have experience. Wonderful. You've spoken to overseas distributors. Superb. Call me cynical, but with all these qualifications, why do you need to ask such a basic question? Hats off to Ben for his honest reply.

What makes it a basic question? Its not the sort of thing my local village solicitor is gonna do for me so I am asking for advice - no one knows everything there is to know, anyone who claims they do is full of shit.

Anyway, who said anything about qualifications? I was replying to a post where I was labelled an enthusiatic amateur - I never claimed I had any qualifications but I am not an enthusiatic amateur.

The big problem in this industry specifically (and the UK generally) is that no one gives a shit about anyone but themselves. Its all about fucking back stabbing, sniping and jealousy in case someone else does better than you - it wouldn't do if a producer helped someone out who was starting up in case the new guy sold one tape more than him.

If it wasn't like that then maybe I wouldnt wouldn't get such sarcastic answers but instead might be offered some help and advice by those who have the information I need.

For the record thank you to Marcus for the name you provided me with.

Didn?t mean to sound sarcy in my previous post, but me ?n? Ben, as producer and retailer were just putting you straight to the grim reality of the situation. If you wish to go ahead and treat the proposed venture as a hobby, fine. I hope you have some fun. But don?t expect to make any dough. Hey, you were the one who mentioned ?millionaire? which gives us an insight into what is coursing through your mind.

This is not a good time to get into porno. Supply has now exceeded demand. There is no longer growth in the market and smaller players are now being shaken out. Major players in the game have suspended proposed stock market flotation?s and are now trying to unload product ? I received an e-mail this very morn, from ?Private? begging me to buy a shipment of videos and DVD?s at seasonably reduced prices!

I?ll tell you now ? as a retailer ? that the video format you propose will be met by a tidal wave of indifference from adult movie buyers. They already seen it done, probably better, a thousand times before and they are no longer interested. The only chance you stand is if you?re proposed leading lady is a truly wondrous beauty the likes of Sylvia Saint, or Erica Bella. But if it?s Shaz or Trace from the chippy, forget it.

To show my good will I?ll give you my secret trade recipe for making a porno movie that punters might actually want to buy in these troubled times of unappealing porno tripe.

1. Take a generous helping of top line totty ? Sylvia Saint, Erica Bella, or similar, with big curvet tits ?n? asses.

2. Add a sprinkling of girl next door, and her Mum, and her Aunty ? all with big tits ?n? asses.

3. Spice with just a soucon of anal ? But no more. You don?t want to put your diners off.

4. Mix together with decent porno studs that can do the biz AND look the part (only Chris Knight springs to mind)

5. Then add erotically charged script, sumptuous British locations and bake for 90 Mins in the finest videographic oven.

6. When it is done take it out and while it is cooling hire top line graphic artists and marketing men (from the States, as, apart from my good self, Brits don?t seem to have a clue) to publicise and distribute this wondrous confection throughout the land!

Good luck.

Lawyer required ? Maybe an accountant ?

Post by lurker »

As has been pointed out elsewhere, the UK porn
scene has a unsual legal status and most things are
done entirely on trust.

Since its a matter of trust, perhaps you and the girl
could agree on a third party accountant who would do
all the book-keeping associated with the "partnership"
and act as a referee ?

Since you are offering a profit share it seems to me
that most disputes would centre on what was a legitimate production/distribution expense & a financial advisor
might be even more help than a lawyer ?

I have no intention of repeating what I have already said above but it is not a model release I need - I have been using a standard model release for ages
