Wasn't that a Private / Michael Ninn production?

I think you mean rotoscoping. I'm trying to do something similar at the moment.

I'm trying 'Video Paint' which is part of 'Ulead Video Graphics Lab'. You can download a 30-day trial from their site. I haven't quite had the results I've wanted but it's only $30 to buy and it's probably worth it to experiment more.

When applying a paint filter to individual captured frames, it looks really good but when I'm using a video file, it's a bit hit and miss.

Mucho,
Because of the new government law on drawings. I want to confront the censors. They are in contravention of Article 10. ECHR.

Rotoscoping is painting over pre-shot film or video footage.

Think the basic laser blasts in earlier Doctor Who episodes or the complete paintjob as seen in Ralph Bakshi's animated Lord of the Rings (1978).

What they did for the Barbie movie is Motion Capture, I should think. Using multiple cameras and computers they capture the real movements of actual people and this data is used to animate the 3D models in the movie.

Think Gollum (Smeagol) in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy. This computer generated character was actually performed by Andy Serkis on a Motion Capture soundstage. Ditto for Kink Kong. (For Kong Andy Serkis had 132 sensors attached to his face so that his every facial expression could be captured and shown on King Kong's face.)

Motion capture is not cheap.

But if you want realistic 3D human models that you can pose - with or without clothes on - may I suggest DAZ|Studio from Daz3D?

The DAZ|Studio software's free - they make money selling models and props and clothing for people to use in their artwork.

I voted for Miss Richards in the 2007 Best Actress Award Poll because I wanted to.
