Answering my own question, I presume its because they dont consider the chances of being caught to be very high. I dont support the death penalty, nor long sentences for the sake of it, but I reckon nothing deters better than a certainty of being apprehended.

This is England a violent country just look at the news, the smoking ban was supposed to be self enforcing : so when a non smoker saw someone smoking they would report them and then your lacal councill official would come in and take over and the proprieter would get a slap on the wrist, this case is maybe not like that who knows, tobacco is not illegal.

This is not about smoking, it's about respect, you have to respect people a lot these days, if you politely ask someone not to smoke you clearly have not shown them any respect, so you need to be shot in the head for not showing respect, these days if you cut some one up in your car, you may get shot in the head, because not enough respect was shown, if however you are found guilty of shooting someone in the head( for no other reason than you didn't show them respect) you will recieve respect from the Law, the Judiciary, and your fellow inmates will treat you ok, as long as you show them respect.

Unfortunately Lizard has hit the nail on the head and yes it makes me sick...These spineless people that shoot someone in the head aint going to command respect from the very person they have just killed.

Think what happened to this guy for doing his job and merely telling someone to stop smoking and then think again with some of the insults meted out here.

Im sure trhis was an isolated case and in most pubs and clubs this wouldnt happen, but you have to earn respect.

I dont know who you mean Terry, maybe I have missed that one, I know you understand my post, I'm not sure Graham does......respect used to be something naturally occuring in most civilised people, now it,s used as an excuse to execute someone, you can imagine these days even the plod saying "what was all that about then mate? why did he get topped?..." ah! he didn,t show any respect"....oh! right, well it,s his own fault then..!puke!

For all Plod's faults I cant see them taking that attitude, to be honest.
