I still dont see how that makes it 'nationalised' - a form of common ownership not popular with British Governments for quite a while now.
With you on abolishing CAP and some help for small farmers though.

I was making an analogy, not an identity.
Consider it a mere rhetorical device.

The UK dairy industry contributes ?2.7B to GDP while the meat industry contributes ?14B Total nearly ?17B
Gordon Brown coughed up ?2.5B during the 2001 FMD epidemic split roughly 70% on compensation and 30% on clean up and disposal costs.

Agriculture seems to be something of a special case to governments worldwide when it comes to subsidies & bale outs

Very few other industries get anywhere near to same protection or help
especially when in relation to Europe or America

I guess its all down to this madness call globalisation.Everyone producing food
to Export to keep their on the right side of the World Bank

About time we started producing food for the locals and exported the excess
tastes a damn sight better when it hasn't been pmped full of preservatives and stored in a cold room for god knows how many months before we the idiot public get to consume it

Rant ends

Didn't the government rely on some computer model "expert" who knew fuck-all about the realities of foot and mouth.

Reality check here boys. I used to work for a food company in Cumbria, and the last time F+M hit we didn't move any stock abroad for months, we ended with ?8m of excess stock which was eventually sold off at a loss.
Cumbria's economy was fucked for a year and many small businesses shut down. The sight of pyres of burning cattle will be with me for the rest of my life.
