I always think it's a pity the Proms are seen by so many people as just being about Land of Hope & Glory etc.

They are so, so much more than that - two months of fabulous classical music with orchestras and musicians from around the world.

I went to five this year, including the huge Wagner opera Gotterdammerung. Fabulous, fabulous stuff - roll on next April when next year's programme is announced.

I love the Proms- but imagine that mixed with the festival nature of Glastonbury and you have the National Eisteddfod of Wales. It has a youth section too- the Urdd.

The Proms can be wonderful, but all musical magnificence is destroyed by that festering sore they call the Prommers on the last night. And the conductors who encourage them and think they're funny.

I'd hire Robert Mugabe and the Taliban Symphony Orchestra for the last night, just so no one important or talented or worthwhile gets killed on the last night when I neutron-bomb the RHA.

Of course, the Home Counties would suffer a famine of chartered accountants and quantity surveyors as a result.
