Are Bono and Bob a pair of twats?
Yes, but useful twats.
To be honest, without live aid, who'd remember The Boomtown Rats and Bob? I mean, Bob may actually care, but these stars are egotistical maniacs lets not forget, and love being in the public eye, regardless of reason.
As for Bono: He wants a good shoeing. The cheeky bastard was sucking up to the Pope, and gobbing off about how much of a devout Catholic he is, and then starts getting involved with African relief? It was the fucking stupid Pope, and his Catholic, backward views, that preaches to Africa that condom use is bad, and that Aids is some sort of punishment from God.
Maybe Bono's pea-sized brain never worked out that his religion and buddy, the Pope, was condemning more Africans to their grave than the 3rd world debt was doing.........and Aids will do so continually now regardless of Africa being in debt or not.
Noel is perfectly correct in what he says; I've never booked tickets for a gig to be preached and made to feel guilty in donating. I've booked tickets because I want a good night out.

I used to spend a lot of time criticizing Islam on here in the noughties - but things are much better now.
Re: Bono And Bob - Twats?
The three of them (Bonio, St.Bob and Noel) are 'a pair of twats'
Re: Bono And Bob - Twats?
Pot kettle and black are the words that spring to mind.
Bono and Bob ARE INDEED a couple of twats.
But then again - so are Noel Gallagher and brother Liam.

Re: Misguided Fools IMHO
So they've raised awareness of the plight of the impoverished which has no doubt resulted in millions of children being sponsored by those in the west
Raised some 70 million dollars via live aid
Got the big boys to wipe out X amount of debt
All well and good but what will stop the cycle from repeating itself
Maybe the 2 Twats could champion such a cause as this and get them the same funding as the bad debts that have been written off
Then we might actually see some progress in the battle against poverty

Damned if they do use their position to try and influence things for the better, damned if they dont use their position to influence things.

That's just one of the perils of being a multi-millionaire celebrity I'm afraid, Andy.
I struggle to feel sorry for them on that score, though. Yes okay, it might "raise awareness", but the bottom line is that it's all just one big ego trip for them.
And nothing really changes that much as a result (20-odd years on from Live Aid and we STILL have mass starvarion in Africa).
Thing is, many people just don't like being pontificated to by multi-millionaire celebrities like Bono - especially when he then goes and charters a jet to have his favourite hat flown half way round the world so that he can wear it on stage (I wonder how big HIS "carbon footprint" is).
