This thread seems to ignore the actual villains of the piece, McLaren, who cheated and got caught.
But wasn't Alonso involved with the politics of McLaren also? He didn't seem to mind that McLaren had spied on another team when he was winning, but when he realised Lewis was a threat that wasn't going away he turned on his team, and tried to interfere with his team mates qualifying!

I've seen team mates race eachother on race day lots of times, but never a driver trying to disrupt his team mates qualifying! Next thing we know, Lewis will be backing out of races after going for lunch at Alonso's the day before (West Ham v Tottenham). !laugh!
Well, perhaps, but it all sounds like rumour to me.
I dunno. Did you watch the Ron Dennis's interview before todays race? Very diplomatic but he basically admitted that he had to come clean before Alonso 'snitched'.

And Alonso's pitlane antics are no rumour That isn't racing.

My theory is that all the teams spy on eachother, and when drivers change teams, they carry secrets and information from one team to another anyway.

Alsonso was fed information from Ferrari via close friend and McLaren Test Driver Pedro De La Rosa, this news was never passed on to Lewis Hamilton so you can leave him out of this argument. The news was passed on to McLaren via Ferraris then top mechanic Nigel Stepney.

Basically what this whole case shows is that F1 has to be the greediest sport in the world at the moment, right from high paid technical experts taking "bungs" for closely guarded secrets down to Ron Dennis doing his damnest to make sure he covers his sorry arse (while seen to be "doing the right thing").

Of course you could say that had this been a lower league F1 team who had cheated they would have got the punishment that they deserved but because it is McLaren who are top of the tree in everything at the moment F1 are left in a sorry predicament of saving the sports and their sorry arse.

But the question does remain where this $100 million fine is going to go ... is it going to go into F1's coffers and therefore Bernie Ecclestone has a wee bit more pocket money to spend than he thought??
