"And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood, and will cut him off from among his people"

Does that mean black pudding's not allowed then?

I'm off to handle a snake.

The JW organisation has some mighty powerful lawyers working for them.

If the hospital had gone ahead with the transfusion, said lawyers would have had a field day.

Why do 'religious' companies need lawyers? Surely their god, whatever it be, would keep them safe from any harm.

"It's one law I would have changed.Giving doctors authority to use transfusions in order to save a life.In our country at least."

I don't agree. Hard cases make bad law. Doctors do not own our bodies. Whether we accept medical help or not is our decision. We have the right as adults to choose whether we want to live or die. It was this woman's stated position that she did not want a blood transfusion. I think she was a nut, but she has the right to be a nut.

If you give doctors the right to override their beliefs, then Jehova's Witnesses will probably just stop using hospitals, and that will lead to more deaths overall.

So both from a philosophical and a practical point of view, it is best to accept her wishes, however stupid they may seem.
