"Does this mean the Your Choice arrangement of people duping tapes in their living rooms on domestic VCRs is the future?"
Er, no. It's the past. In future folks will simply order the video of their choice, probably in DVD format from the web and it will be dispatched to them from wherever in the world. Alternatively, they may simply watch it, or choose to download it from the web. If the absurd rules on no UK mail order are scrapped then you can expect decent mail order outfits to setup seeling legit products from around the world.
"Get with it Dibble. Invest in some proper duping decks. The days of Fines & Closures are gone."
Firstly, as I pointed out, duping is done by outside contractors - so it's not my place or business, to "invest in some proper decks." However, I can assure you that the contractors in question have never scrimped on purchasing expensive high end equipment and they certainly don't work in their living room!) A few substandard tapes are bound to slip through now and again however good your set-up, but customers are indemnified against this.
So, you think the days of fines and closures are gone eh? A close friend and colleague would beg to differ. His dream home which had taken a lifetime to work up to (he's not a young man) was forcibly seized and sold from under him and he and his wife were effectively thrown out on the street just last Thursday! What was the heinous crime that led to this prejudicial action? He was convicted of selling 5 uncertifficated videos. He's a nice chap, not a crook and never done nothing to anybody and the videos in question were his own productions. But now he is virtually bankrupt and living in a caravan at the bottom of a friend?s garden. He can't realistically 'start again' at his age, he's ruined and the future now looks bleak. I don't know how the fuckers at Charring Cross who pressed the case can sleep at night. They knew very well that he wasn't a proper crook and that he wasn't harming anybody, he was just an easy bust. And this at a time when burglaries, street crime, car crime and assaults, i.e., real crime, are up. Tell the fuckers that you?ve been burgled, or had your car nicked by lowlife scumbags and see how enthusiastic they are about investigating that.
The law hasn't changed it's just that there's less emphasis on enforcing it. But its always there if the State wants to fuck you up for whatever reason. Be wary. Don?t vote for any of the middleclass fuckers in the main parties and campaign for a written constitution that guarantee?s freedom of expression.
