Life Of Brian has every element of comedy---where else can you go from slapstick to Latin grammar?

Dear Beestie

Glad to start the New Year by posting in one of your threads.

I met up with Eric M when he joined Thames , which is where I was working at the time. Nothing much to report on a personal level other than he was a comical guy and once when sharing the lift he did that thing of extending his hand then moving it to adjust his glasses when I tried to shake it, lot of effort for an audience of one, but I still smile.

One memory I have is the pairs appearance on the 'Today' programme. Their appearance was pre recorded and included a "surprise" appearance by Des O'Connor. The "ad libbed" exchange took t least four takes and all looked spontaneous and funny which gave me an insight into what professionalism is all about.

Didn't meet Ernie until years later after Eric's death when he was punting about for work at another TV company I happened to be working for at the time. Sadly no one was able to give him another setting aside from the odd guest spot.

Like the Beatles it will be hard for anyone to equal their achievements partly because the world has changed. There will never be another Xmas show with 22m. viewers in this country.

By the way anyone remember their appearance in "The Sweeney"?

Yup, I do. They seemed a bit awkward and stilted in that episode.

Regularly ranked the worst Sweeney episode in polls. Too comical in parts and unbelievable in others.
When Thaw and Waterman did the M&W Xmas special as WW1 soldiers, it was a deal that took M&W to a Sweeney episode.

Yup, it was a reciprocal arrangement.

Thanks again, Sam. That was well worth watching. And thanks too to BB for recommending it.
