A bad thing. Trouble is, how the fuck would anyone kill a whale in a humane way? Salt water is more conductive than fresh water, so electrocution is out (not to mention the voltages! They use 2400 volts for capital punishment and that doesn't always work).

I'm sure we've all eaten chicken that's been raised in a cage, where all it's feathers have fallen off and it has sores on it's legs. A horrific life I'm sure. We'd all choose free range if possible, but seriously, there isn't enough land to feed 3 billion people on chicken that's raised in the open.

Like I've said previously: There's only enough resources on the planet for 1 person per 1/3rd of an acre of livable land. We passed this mark about 35 years ago (from memory).

Although I agree with most of your views on this subject Magoo, I am afraid you are wrong concerning bull fighting in Portugal. It may have been banned in the past but it takes place now. The main difference from the Spanish variety is the bull is not killed in the ring by the matador but in the arena abbatoir.
