Why indeed.

A good cause for debate- but the recommendation not to wear uniform came from Major's government.

I had time for Major- a good cricket fan. And hardly a pinko Commie.

Von Boy,
The British other ranks are working class professional killers and are an embarrassment to a government who are said to abhor violence. A soldier in uniform is proof that the government uses violence and actually have people killed for political and economic rather than defensive reasons as in Iraq.

In fact the British squaddie is treated like shit by this Labour government with low pay for risking one's life and inferior weapons. Also when a battle is won on the ground the officer gets all the credit! We the public want more pictures of our heroes and we want to hear their views on TV and in the media and yes we would like them to wear the Queen's uniform in public and feel proud.

If Muslims don't like seeing a British uniform on the streets then they should go to a Muslim country.

It's simple.We're the USA's 'nodding dogs'.

When Bush says jump,Britain says how high?

The same goes for when our government tells us to jump.
Reason why we're in the fucked up state we're in.

You've hit the nail on the head again, Mike. The left liberal middleclass elite has no time at all for the army. Which is why they have been starved of funds and been excluded from public life - i.e., no parades and no celebration of their victories throughout the past decade. The only fighters the Guardian reading classes want to celebrate are the ANC, IRA or Sandinistas.

Army moral and recruit is at an all time low. Retried generals are openly attacking Brown and his government, while servicemen are leaving in droves, fed up with risking their lives and then being hauled up before military courts on some poncy politically expedient charges to do with 'being aggressive' towards the enemy. The privileged middleclass fuckers of the left aught to be showing a bit of gratitude and respect to the British Army and the other services. If it weren?t for them Britain wouldn't be as wealthy (pension protected) or have the same political standing and respect in the world as it does today.

Dibble,
There is a lot of sense in what you say and if I were in the Army's High Command I would seriously consider a period of Martial Rule and the arrest of all the traitors in government. I would love to see the tanks roll down Whitehall cheered by the British Public, after all the Army holds no allegiance to corrupt and unpatriotic politicians but to Queen and country.
Mike.

There was very nearly a military takeover in 1970 when very senior members of the military were really pissed off at the way the country was going then.
