Realistically gritting is of little use for snow, as the snow just lies on top of the grit and doesn't really melt it. Gritting is more for frost and ice as a prevention, that's why gritter's go out several hour's before frost but usally wait until snow start's falling.
Glad you think it's funny about the gritter's getting stuck eh, those guy's go out to try and keep road's clear for people like you in dangerous condition's, and some of the road's they HAVE to do where i live i wouldn't even take a car on in a snow storm let alone a gritter.

The time I saw a gritter stuck in the snow it was unoccupied.

I'm not getting self righteous on anyone but there is a common preception in this country that when it snow's every road must be clear and gritted and it's not possible. The men can only go out and do the job they can. Sorry if it sounded like i was having a go, i wasn't, but my dad used to do the gritter's and in the day's before mobile's if he was gone all night you never knew if they were stuck on some small road in the middle of nowhere.

Take your point but I was meaning major A roads in my area
are a farce every time there is a few inches of snow

No offence taken Stu.I understand what you're saying but it's the Highways Agency i'm having a go at and not the people that operate the Gritters, who do a dillegent and efficent job.
The Highways Agency seem to panic and make knee jerk decsions, which always results in cock up.
i live in London, which we would'nt know bad weather if it smacked us in the faceBigStu80 wrote:
