England lost 3 Internationals who hadn't reached their prime,one a prospective giant of the game( Edwards ),one with 33 caps( Byrne ) and one with a phenominal goalscoring record( Taylor ). Republic of Ireland lost Whelan, and Northern Ireland lost Blanchflower,who never played again.
Therefore the tragedy affected more than just Manchester,although obviously that's where it was felt most.

I NEVER tire of hearing about it, played when football was not corrupt or a snide business, and you only have to listen to Charltons quavering voice to know how tragic it was.

It's quite right that the Munich,Hillsborough,Ibrox,Bradford City tragedies
etc are all given the due acknowledgement they fully deserve
Nobody should forget that people lost their lives in such horrible ways

Granted the press do tend to go over the top when these anniversaries
come round. But it is only right that tributes are paid to those who died
at these events. Especially within the local communities as a mark of
respect to not only those who perished but also for their families

Also I agree with Sam that you cannot compare players from different eras
Bloody hell the players and managers have been going potty the last few
weeks about the Wigan pitch. Imagine them having to play every week
on pitches like the old Derby baseball ground. Now that was a mess but
funnily enough they still managed to win championships on that mudbath

Wigan is like a bowling green in comparison
