Therefore we should have a referendum on whether we should remain in the European "Community".

A solution would be that "lifers" should be given the option to commit suicide. Some have already done this. Fred West for example (yes I realise he was only on remand when he topped himself). That doctor from Hyde who murdered all those old people, strung himself up. Huntley has tried to end it all, but the authorities have, unfortunately, prevented him from being successful.

Nae.
The death penalty would make me as much a killer in cold blood as Wright and Dixie. You may want that tag, Arginald- but I don't.
Life meaning life will be a living hell for Wright. Hanging would be too quick and easy a way out- cf. Fred West.
Don't be a liberal all your life, Arginald.

I would have to say nay. Don't get me wrong, c***s the likes of Dixie and Wright deserve to be hung up, fried, toasted or shot etc, but, and here's the downside; innocent people tend to be executed when you have the death penalty.
You may say that oh, we've got D.N.A evidence now, so you can't make mistakes. Wrong, there's a whole load of men that've been released in America ( All on death row) because of blunders and outright framing by the authorities and as we all know the Americans never make mistakes.. and they've never really got rid of the death penalty.
To me, to install the death penalty, it is about revenge, nothing more. I prefer not to drop down to the level's of scumbags like Wright, It may cost more (though not neccessarily) to keep someone like him incarcerated until he dies.
A final thought, if the death penalty is for some reason reinstated, just wait for all the slimy lawyers to come crawling out of the woodwork, it'll be a paradise for that particular 'profession'.

It's obvious the death penalty has it's pro's and cons and i'm sure that no decent living person sympathises with serial killers and paedophiles, but would the death penalty act as a deterant?,to make these people think twice before commiting their sick, heinous acts.
I was watching the 'Tonight' programme yesterday evening which was quite interesting on why lessons have'nt been learnt since the likes of Brady & Hindley,Nielsen and Sutcliffe darkened our doors.
A lot of lives would of been saved had of lessons been learned.
The Police should just be allowed to do their jobs without any media/press interference.

The problem with have with the current system of murderers given a "life" sentence is that in most cases they don't actually serve that time. Many are released after serving 10 years, and some even less than that!
would the death penalty act as a deterent?
If you're the sort of guy that gets kicks out of murdering people, are you thinking about death penalties and consequences in a rational way?
Also, in most countries who still have the death penalty, the murder rate is 3-20 times higher than here.
The death penalty wouldn't be a deterrent at all.

Exactly Trumpton.Life should MEAN life. And any defence lawyer that tries challenging that should be sent to prison as well. For tratorism to the British justice system and to the British public.
