Big Log by Robert Plant would have made an exellent number one in the Eighties, around the top Ten, not even close by today's standards, we enough idiots download a tune it's up at number one.

The Who had a few number twos! I'm A Boy, Substitute, Happy Jack. The biggest travesty though according to Pete Townshend himself, was the fact that I Can See For Miles only managed to scrape into the Top 10! An absolutely awesome single for its time. Mind you there are a number of singles that never even made the UK charts or at least Top 40 that you'd think were huge hits at the time.............

Buffalo Springfield - For What Its Worth
Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit
Love - Alone Again, Or
The Byrds - Going Back
Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl
Velvet Underground - Sweet Jane

and i'm sure theres more but cannot be bothered going through it! Pick your own, lets have a BGAFD alternate chart..........

I remember reading that the Who had never had a number one single or album on any major chart in either the UK or the US; but had come second about 10 times- to acts as diverse as Jim Reeves and Adam Ant.

Yeah its odd when you think of the singles they've had. I think they're only number one album was Who's Next in about 71 or 72. You'd think Tommy was no.1 but I think that only made the top 5. I always assumed Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks would have been a number 1 but that only made 4 I think.

I don't think Who's Next was no.1. That's the point- nothing they did was.

'Who's Next' was definitely a number one album in 1971.
Waterloo Sunset was number 2 for 2 weeks (after shooting to 2 from no.9) behind Silence Is Golden by the Tremeloes, before both tracks were leapfrogged by A Whiter Shade Of Pale

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

I won't argue, dynatech...but I got the information that they had 'never' had a number one ...from the sleeve notes to "Who's Better, Who's Best" !

You would think Polydor- owner of the Brunswick, Decca, MCA and Track labels- would know!
