If you break a red light in a car and get caught its a ?60 fine and 3 penalty points for the first offence.

Doing it on a bike is just as dangerous and as Cameron has done it repeatedly and ridden along a one way street the wrong way, why should he get off?

What moral right has he to claim he is fit to lead a country and put in place legislation when he doesn't abide by laws already in existence?

Colonel, I would concur that cyclists are extremely annoying people. But I think that denouncing them as liars, crooks and cheats, just because they ride on the pavement or run the odd red light might be venturing a little to far into the realm of hyperbole.

I tend not to judge these things by way of such trivialities as the one at hand, although it is amusing to hear attempts being made to wring some sort of weighty significance out of something so comparatively minor.

And rather a man capable of common fallibility than some unctuous, holier-than-thou type frankly.

Typical. Can't answer the question that was posed ("What moral right has he to claim he is fit to lead a country and put in place legislation when he doesn't abide by laws already in existence?") so resorts to comparing the questioner to someone he obviously despises.

For your information I have little time for Blair, a man who threw away a golden opportunity to really change Britain to throw in his lot with a half baked idiot whose politics were a million miles from New Labour, in the hope of gaining wider glory.

If you "tend not to judge these things by way of such trivialities" then that speaks volumes about the strength of your judgement. If you think breaking red lights and cycling up a one way street the wrong way are trivialities you need to spend some time at traffic accidents, in casualty and in trauma wards and speak to the victims who have had their lives changed for the worse, on a permanent basis, by people who agree with you that breaking such laws is a trivial matter.

For the record, I don't support any political party - I have spent too long working with politicians in various ways to believe more than a handful are anything other than mendacious, self centred and totally driven by power, be it locally, nationally and internationally.

Finaly, as far as your "Tony 'weddings/parties/bah mitzvahs' Blair" jibe is concerned, the list of politicians of all parties - but dominated by Tories - that have made their fortunes from speech making, memoir writing and spurious directorships is almost as long as the history of party politics in the UK.
