Opera is good. The latest version doesn't freeze so often.

PopUpKiller is the best at doing what it says. But as pointed out by Lizard, popups pay for most free sites. If they are not open for 10 seconds then no payment. Not every site can get a good sponsor like this one. I would like to see some popup killing software which kills only the spawned windows, not the first.

Lizard's IE changes are fine but without JavaScript activated a lot of sites won't load at all. This mostly, but not entirely, means sites offering downloads on interrogation.

Always check you freeware or shareware for "contamination" at .

I am surprised no one had mentioned adSubtract.

No more pop-ups unless you designate the sites you want them on. No more banner ads taking up your precious connection time. No more background music (a bugbear of mine with those awful midi files).

You can also control your cookies and referrers for privacy.

The Pro version is not free but i have used it for over 5 years now.

Phantom (and no not an "interested party" - just a satisfied customer who is surprised there are still people in the world complaining about pop-up ads on sites)
