What's Dave's vision ? What are his values ? Or would his answer to that be 'What would you like them to be?' If he doesn't make us feel more confident, more energised, more capable then he's not a leader he's just a manager and as such a salesman for his and other's re-heated ideas.
Doubtless advertising and PR is capable of constructing him as a leader, but that's just a contrived 'controlled show'. If you see beyond that what's he offering?
As for the Boris thing, in no other city in the UK is the office of Mayor seen to be so important and powerful. Is this just because it's an easy way for London to compare itself to New York where great credit was given to Guiliani from which point on the role of the Mayor became much more visible. Whatever policies are introduced, good and bad, it's convenient to present them as one person's vision, be that Guiliani, Livingstone, or in the future Johnson but aren't they just the public face of a much larger administration ? Why is the Livingstone/Johnson thing given so much coverage in the press ? Do you think Londoners are interested in what's happening in Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow ? It's just PR for London as if it doesn't get enough.

1. My Dad wasn't a manager
2. I read my local shockingly Tory evening paper
3. Are you telling me that working class people are racist? Seriously? Genie out of the bottle here methinks.

There are many examples in your myriad of posts where you contradict yourself or don't answer the question as posed.

No, not blue collar folk. Blue collar folk are perfectly clever and able to argue their case- I know many that do. Just talking about you Dibbs- and you aren't working class either.

"1. My Dad wasn't a manager"
OK, but he did work in a chemical facility. Come to mention it, though, you never did clarify what position your father held there. Nor did you mention what your mother did ? was she a teacher? And what about your own occupation and wider family background? You?ve always been suspiciously reticent on that score. I, on the other hand, have never had any qualms about discussing my own background and early life.
?2. I read my local shockingly Tory evening paper?
You also read The Independent ? unless you were lying about that.
"Are you telling me that working class people are racist?"
Working class folks are no more racist than anyone else - they just don't have any delusions or pretentions of moral superiority.
?There are many examples in your myriad of posts where you contradict yourself?
Then name one. And if I do so in future please be kind enough to highlight it so that I might explain myself more cogently.
?Blue collar folk are perfectly clever?
Except when they vote for right wing parties it seems ? in which instance they immediately become ?ignorant? Nazis.
?you aren't working class either.?
Oh? And pray why aren?t I working class, then? Because I now drive a smart car, because I have a nice gaff? Or is it because I?m unusually articulate, and that conflicts with that deep unspoken prejudice of the middle classes ? that working folks are generally stupid and ?ignorant??
