Think it's just history repeating itself, to be honest.
Thatcher was ousted after 11 years, her successor was unable to fill the vacuum, Major's major policy idea was the road cones hotline. He would have lost the 1992 election but for two things: the OTT triumphalist election rally by Kinnock and co at Sheffield, and shadow chancellor John Smith saying taxes would rise under Labour.
When Blair headed off, Brown had the chance to set his own agenda, but instead just tried to be the same as his predecessor. If he'd dropped the anti-libertarian ID cards and erosion of other civil rights; if he'd expressed opposition to blindly following US foreign policy; if he'd followed through with earlier hints about policies of social inclusion, he would not now be seen as a dithering incompetent. Fortunately for him, and unfortunately for Labour, there's no man or woman of ideas waiting in the wings, no one for the public to be convinced by.
As appealing as Cameron and friends look to you guys now, once has the reins of power it will be a different story. It always is. None of our political parties are embarrassed with riches as far as talented minds are concerned. Labour look tired and bankrupt of ideas; the Tories just seem desperate; and the Lib Dems are more anonymous than they've ever been (dropping Kennedy was a major blunder).
Next election, if Labour look like getting the kicking everyone is predicting, there's a strong chance the SNP will get their independence mandate. We suffered 18 years of a government we didn't vote for, and it's unlikely we'll stand for it again.
If we can jettison the spin doctors and PR consultants from politics and concentrate on what is really important rather than what they think the electorate will find attractive, then the UK may still exist in ten years. We cannot allow our freedoms to be gradually eroded at the behest of the police under the guise of "protecting" us from international terror.

Also remember that Thatcher wasn't really a Tory, not in the true sense, just as Bliar wasn't proper Labour.

The economic cycle goes around in circles. When Labour came into power the economy was on the up turn from a recession and of-course they boasted it was all their doing. I?m unsure if Labour will be able to turn the economy around before the next general election. The Tory?s will gain power and will say the same thing.
The economy is not why I will not vote Labour in the next general election but because they are control freaks. Never since they came into power they have been waiting to control want you say and do, even now to the point they are trying to see what you get up to in your own bedroom.
ID cards. Stop terrorists entering into the UK! So if they are that important everyone should have had them yesterday? And what?s the point of them if you don?t have to carry them on your person. Oh, yes! Forget, they are not compulsory to carry yet but 5 years down they will. Because the police will need thet power!!
That brings me to the next point. Seems if Labour are bent on destroying the long legal right that everyone is innocent until proved guilty. There system is guilty until proven innocent.
DNA database- so all criminals can plant your DNA on crime scenes and you will get knock on the door at 5am by the cops.
Job database ? So if you boss hates you for no reason they can add you onto the job database so you will never be able get a job.
There?s the new communication act ? lets control what you watch, download, in your own home.
Education! Yes, Labour have spent lots of money on education, building new schools. Kids think Wow, new clean building I?m going to treat this like the queen live here. Bollocks, lets kick the door in! Waste of money when all those in education know the best way to get better education is smaller schools, smaller class sizes, less testing.
In-fact, lets face the facts, labour have wasted millions of pounds on all these projects for very little gain.
Oh, forget to say that did you know that you are captured on camera around 40 times a day just going about your day to day business.

You forgot PFI - all these new schools and hospitals that have been built using private money so that the cost stays off the balance sheets.
Then the running costs spiral and, guess what? At the end of the contract the buildings belong to the developers.
Everything ends up costing much more than it would have by simply doing things the traditional way...

The tories are doing well at the moment because Labour have a crap leader. If the labour party do the right thing or if Brown does the right thing and steps down then Labour's fortunes will rise. Brown just doesn't cut it as a leader,he has no personality. If Labour opted for someone like Alan Johnson who seems like a normal guy and has done a working class job then Labour voters will return to the fold and give the tories a fight at the next election.

I wouldn't vote Neo Labour ever again for loads of reasons, like all their stealth taxes killing us and our economy, them being fascist c***s, and not least because most of 'em are foreigners. They should be north of the boarder in the parliament that WE paid for running their own country rather than down in London making rules for us. !annoyed!
