There's something in that, but I feel that the players will get through, if they're good enough. The trouble with some British talent (Wayne Bridge / SWP / Fletcher) is that they're happy coming on for 20 mins every fortnight and picking up their wages. Where's the ambition?

Just look at the difference between Bentley and SWP. 2-3 years ago SWP was the dead-on cert for taking Beckham's place in the England team. He moved from a mid-placed team to title contenders...an understandable move with ambition. 2 years on and he's gone backward, while Bentley moved from a big club to Blackburn because he knew he'd get games. Foreigners were holding him back at Arsenal, but he found a club where he could develop and progress. Bentley shows ambition and it should be obvious to SWP that being a Chelsea reserve for going on 3 years isn't doing anything for his career.

Within a club foreign talent can hold British talent back, but there are alternatives and if you're good enough for the Premiership, you'll play.

Very true Sam,and an excellent post.Like i said,i would love more English players in the Prem. They have to be given the chance.I find it a shame that SWP has'nt had as many games this season, neither has Bridge, and imo Bridge is a much better player and person than Cashley Cole.

Wenger shows pure ignorance in English players,Bentley and Sidwell are prime examples of talented English players bombed out by Wenger's management.Fair enough,Sidwell has'nt had any better treatment at Chelsea, but Sidwell would of had to be on top of his game to edge Lampard out of the team.

The likes of Chelsea and Man Utd and Liverpool will buy more English players, reason why they won't be effected.

Spurs,West Ham,Everton and Villa have a core English squad as it is,and they will be chuffed if the FA are successful in enforcing this, with the help from FIFA.

This issue no doubt will ramble on and on.But i only support the plan for the good of the National team.

I think the problem with developing grass roots sports is the lack of money being put into it.As you put it,English Cricket is struggling as well, with local counties opting to sign overseas cricketer's,rather than going for homegrown one's.

It's also becoming a problem getting kids to go out and take part in sport. The closure of local youth clubs and sports centre's does'nt help either as they become too expensive to maintain.Which is why i said that more lottery money should be put into UK sport and grass roots sport.

Even if it became available,i doubt the terrestrial channels would be interested in anything other than the Test Matches, while Sky televise cricket across the board, from the one dayers to women's cricket.Having their own sports channel's gives them the means to do that.

I must admit,Test Match cricket was alot better on the BBC,no commercials for example.Channel 4 tried it's best to make it interesting.

We were debating this in the pub last night, and a fellow local come up with a good point on this 6+5 rule. The point being Cardiff City,Swansea City and Wrexham.(Welsh Teams that play in English League's).Would they have to have more Welsh players than English players.

And would Berwick Rangers,(an English team that play in a Scottish League),would they have to have more English players than Scottish?

These are reasons why such a rule cannot work over here but it seems that England is the nation where there's more foreign based players than home based players

Serie A:More Italians than foriegners
La Liga:Mostly Spanish players, the rest made up of South Americans
Bundesliga:Mostly German players, the rest made up of Eastern Europeans and Scandanavians
Lique 1;Mostly French, the rest made up of Africans, mostly North Africans from Morocco,Tunisia and Algeria.

I mentioned these Country's League's as their National teams are the most organised. So the proof is definetley in the pudding.
