Ross was the original diva. All the Whitneys and Mariahs, and even the catwalk queens, took their lead from her.
And I don't mean diva in a good way.

>Holland and Dozier
You missed out a Holland, he will be annoyed !!!
In fact they were Holland, Dozier, Holland.
Have to agree, they were one of the GREAT song writing teams, probably writing more hits than Lennon / McCartney AND Jagger / Richards added together.
But as you say, they hardly get a mention.
Songs like Heat Wave, Baby love, Where did our love go, I cant help myself, This old heart of mine, Reach out ill be there, You keep me hanging on, (Im a) Roadrunner and many more

Who recalls Barrett Strong? he was with them in the early days
Re: Motown music still good to listen to.
Barrett Strong formed a great partnership with Norman Whitfield and wrote many classic tunes - indeed, Whitfield/Strong went some way in making H-D-H's sudden departure from Motown less obvious.
At Tamla Motown's peak (roughly 64-67) they had 3 great teams competing with each other for hits - Holland-Dozier-Holland, Whitfield-Strong & Smokey Robinson & friends

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?
Re: Motown music still good to listen to.
Strong wrote Money that was covered by the Beatles/Stones i used to have both versions.
Re: Motown music still good to listen to.
Barrett Strong was one of the original founder artists of Berry Gordy's Motown empire, before Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Supremes, Temptations etc started rising through the ranks circa 61/62

Motown Reissues
Around 1968 /records were being reissued incl the 1964 Dancing In The Street think it was Alan Freeman/Tony Blackburn that played it a bit on his shows too that was responsible for it to be a hit in the UK
Re: Motown Reissues
Yeah, that was really the start of what became the Northern Soul scene. Motown's best years in the UK were 67-70 when their new product (including the more harder-edged Temptations material) was sharing the charts with stuff from 64, 65, 66 - for instance all the Isley Brothers Motown hits were re-issues
