there are many people with mental illness who can live fairly normal lives with medication yes,
There are many people with mental illness who live fairly normal lives without medication also.
By namby pamby I mean the civil liberties brigade who have put us in the situation where dangerous psycopaths are now walking around attacking
and killing people because they hear voices
What are you talking about, Alice? Seriously, do you think before you decide on an opinion?; are these your own or taken from tabloid articles and brainless mates down the pub?
Now, I'm no expert and someone who works in either field can put me straight on this but maybe I'm being weird in concluding that people involved in civil liberties -or 'namby pambies'- aren't necessarily the people who assess patients with histories of mental illness, and whether they are a danger to the public. My amateurish guess is that if a person with mental illness is released and murders someone, it is through bad judgement by some medical examination board -or some equivalent- and not the people who fight for human rights!
Am I being presumptuous here? I mean, my thoughts that I'm laying down took me as long as it did to read your paragraphs, Alice, and on reflection they seem pretty sensible, obvious thoughts, culminating in a pretty common-sense theory on how these accidents happen and who's to blame.
So, if I can come to such a conclusion, so quickly and without effort, what went wrong with you?

What do people think they would be doing now if he hadn't made it as a footballer? She would be working in Tesco's, he would probably be in jail.
I think it is in very bad taste to grow up in a very poor inner city area, where you have seen hardship,

I think it is in very bad taste to grow up in a very poor inner city area, where you have seen hardship, and then a few years later blow ?5m on a wedding! Half of it comes from 'Hello' magazine, the other half presumably comes from Wayne. There are people back in the area they grew up in who could improve their lives if a bit of that money was given to them. This is the ultimate sell-out.

I'm not entirley sure that the Rooney's wedding has any connection whatsover with Barry George and Jill Dando's murder, other than they both made the TV news. Rooney's wedding is quite similar to Gazza's one years ago, a high profile footballer just happening to get married, unlike Beckham/Adams and Ashley Cole and Cheryle Tweedy whom where famous in ther own way before they met. Because Colleen and Wayne were having sex before the age of consent, should we really give a toss as the public who Rooney is married to? I'm don't even care who Cristino Ronaldo is fucking, but then thats probably more than one person.

Wouldn't it be nice to just be able to lock everyone up who committed a serious offence in jail or a mental health facility for life
Trouble is the prisons are full to overflowing, the remand centres bursting, the court system clogged, mental health facilities & public hospitals grossly under funded
It all stems fron 2 fatal flaws in thinking. They being, you must always balance the budget no matter what the social cost & jails are purely their to deliver punishment
While i dont agree with everything the namby pamby crowd want(ie releasing rehabilitated paedophiles)they do have a few ideas that are sound
Intervention & Rehabilitation are better than Incarceration and actually save society money in the long term
Convincing the bean counters however to believe this seems nigh on impossible

I agree with max_tranmere 100% on this. I was going to put down my own thoughts at length, but max has it pretty much covered.
Oh by the way max you're right: Colleen does have one of those incredibly annoying, whiney scouse accents.
This I know, since I had the misfortune of being caught unawares recently by a TV trailer for her latest "reality" show - something about taking supposedly "ordinary" women off the streets and turning them into fashion models or some such bollocks.
I was also given cause yesterday to chortle heartily when, on the TV news, she was described as (among other things) a "best-selling author"!!
BEST-SELLING AUTHOR!!!!!
That was the funniest fucking thing I've heard in ages (haven't these hacks ever heard of ghost-writers)?!

True - but irrelevant. For the question still remains: Where would Colleen be without Rooney?

Also true. But I'm equally sure that the trappings of the millionaire lifestyle very quickly made Colleen extremely aware of which side her bread's buttered and went a long way to making her much more forgiving when Wayne "played away", and far less inclinded to shoot the goose that layed the golden egg.
Now that she's got the magic ring on her finger, it'll be interesting to see whether she'll be so forgiving if and when he gets caught with his trousers down with some other scrubber in the future. Or whether it'll all suddenly be "unforgivable" (no doubt she'll pour her heart out to Heat or OK!) and she'll sue for divoirce and a hefty chunk of his wedge.

Well indeed Sam - but the shameless self-promotion and all the accompanying ostantatious, self-indulgent nonsense ARE down to her and her alone - egged on by the sycophantic media and millions of silly, giggly chav birds who want to "be Colleen".
Time was that the tab "celebrity" was earned through hard work, endeavour and self-sacrifice: Coming up with a medical breakthrough, tireless work on behalf of the poor, conquesing Everest or shooting down 50 Messerschmitts in dogfights.
That kind of stuff.
Ellen MacArthur - now that to me is someone who's fucking earned her fame and fortune. Kelly Holmes another (works hard running academies etc. and without all this OK/Hello nonsense). Even F1 drivers put their lives on the line every time they step into their cars.
Colleen Rooney though is nothing more than a skanky, talentless Chav scrubber who happened to get a lucky break by shagging some young bloke who happens to have a particular talent for booting a football around a park.
And without that, as max says she'd still be working as a checkout girl or stacking shelves in some Liverpool supermarket.

Eric. On the issue of this semi-literate bimbo being called a 'best selling author' I think that is very insulting to people who work hard and write books, without having it faked like she does. I've never understood how people can fake it so badly in the literary world, and that be ok, when it is so frowned upon in the music industry. Do people remember that fake group 'Milli Vanilli'? It was revealed they never sung one word on their songs and they were villified! Somehow it is ok in the literary world. To describe this idiot, who would barely know how to even spell her own name and could probably barely even do her 2-times-table, as a 'best selling author is obscene.
