Firstly yeah tbh the MOD pay structure is fucking disgraceful all round but yeah it is wrong about the different pay rates for Gurkha's.

I dont remember exactly but the top guy in my unit was pullin in almost 90,000 gross, that something like 250 quid a day or something? and they get paid EVERY day of the whole year!

Anyways how can anyone justify that kind of pay rate when the rest of us were on operational tours risking our lives and most of the top dogs only come out to the theatre for a week out of the 6 months!

Gurkha's units are among the most proffesional and are always attached to the busiest battlegroups for that reason. They are usually first choice for any live state movements and they do deserve their respect.

In my experience people from squaddie towns always hate squaddies anyway... especially so in Aldershot!

I can kinda understand that too... I mean damn they can be serious arseholes especially on the drink. That includes British born soldiers, Gurkha's, Fijians, West Indian and South African soldiers that are huge numbers in our forces too.

But its not the Gurkha's here to blame its the MOD for turfing them out! Dont forget that we go to their country and recruit them! Dont forget many of the unmarried ones are here alone away from their familys and dont forget why the fuck they are here anyways!! They are here to work for us, to provide our country with secruity and to try and support their families just like anyone else!

No, thought not.

The Gurkhas have been part of the British Army for centuries. The Army actively go to Nepal to recruit them - this has always been the case.

The Gurkhas have a well founded reputation for outstanding bravery and conspicuous gallantry. They have received a high proportion of VC's.

For this government to treat them as nothing more the second-class is an absolute disgrace.

Logically speaking though, we are just hiring them for a job. A job they do well - BUT why should that give them right of abode in the UK if it wasn't part of the contract. I've nothing against them coming here myself, seeing they're better calibre than the usual riff-raff we let in. Although it is common practice around the globe to hire staff from developing countries and pay them less than a native. Don't see many Britons bleating they weren't offered Saudi citizenship after working in the Gulf - or weren't offered Norwegian citizenship because they worked in their sector of the North Sea.

Well I would just add that if you are good enough to protect and serve this country, you should sure as hell be good enough to stay in it ... end of fucking story - stop the hating folks!!

Just a quick explaination here, the units in our army are formed into battle groups each containing different elements of the different trades. The reason each battlegroup is bases its units near to one another are of course to manage the battlegroup headquarters, for training purposes and operation readyness. Each battle group used to rotate its role every 4 years and with that its location.

Some long term posts like northern ireland, germany and cyprus were included in this rotation and the rotation was seen a relief of overseas duties and also an ability to train units more maturely and across different roles to make the fighting force of the army in general more effective.

Anyways this quick explaination is going on a bit now... so a couple years back the army decided to stop this rotation system and opted to keep all battlegroups in their current roles as the retention in the army was so poor that operational effectiveness was suffering because of the rotation system. Soldiers were just not staying in long enough to benefit from it.

This ment that wherever the units were based was were they would be staying for the forceeable future. Mine was gonna stay in Germany and tah dah! The Gurkha's I believe are attached to Para units in Aldershot and Catterick!

Thats the reason they are here and from my experience a lot of the Gurkha guys I know would much rather be working and deploying from their home land.
