Part of the problem with this country is the amount of folk wearing nostalgia blinkers, yearning for a Britain/England/Scotland/Wales that never really existed. Whatever they think the solution is---leaving the EU, reversing immigration, voting Tory---most of the problems will still exist.

A swathe of this country feels disenfranchised, as if it's no longer their's. But it never was.

Socialism has changed from a liberator of the working classes, to a chain around their necks. A modern evil, no doubt about that - all the emphasis is on helping those who won't help themselves (except to your money), as opposed to those who can't help themselves.

Gordon Brown should have called an election last November and all his troubles would have been over before last Christmas, he could have taken a fat cat directors job in some large company and could be laying in the sun now counting his ill gotten gains, instead he is trying to sort out all of our problems, trouble is he hasnt got a clue !thumbsdown!

I could go on about the Tories saying things about how forgetful some have become, the fact that crime has gone up were I live since the Tories took other my local council while at the same time cutting essential services etc.

Make quotes about Boris, Green Dave and the rest of the Whoops-A-Daisy clan but I would assume someone else has.

Perhaps we should be looking at ourselves for the solution I am paying for all the muppets with credits cards paying or not paying as the case is on the never never when if the only thing we borrowed for was mortgages the economy (I believe) would be so much different.

Brought with the view that if you can't afford it then you don't buy it and even when those lovely offers came flooding in "have a card for this a card for that and buy what you want" still managed to resist the temptation.

I am no economist but the Government are apparently to blame for making life so much easier to borrow.

I didn't think cheers gov when they got in new car it is, backed up by a ?10,000 'loan' with the glee of paying a few grand extra to the bank on top of it just for the 'pleasure'.

If others had done the same would we not be in so much *hit?

When people keep going on about the high interest rates under the last Tory government they forget that USA was at 10.5%, Europe on average was 11%...Japan was the lowest with 0 %...yes ZERO....so don't get the idea that the UK was 14% ( that was for 26 hours over the black wednesday they then went down to 12%) The UK has had the highest interest rates over the last 10 years with USA and Europe always being 1/2% below...that is the normal cyle of life.....with rip of britain..

Also when labour people go on about Thatchers 80's, they don't like talking about the 70's when the dead couldn't be buried, 4 day week, power cuts, top rate tax 90% etc etc......

The 1970s were a political nightmare. Power cuts, union muscle-flexing, IMF, the winter of discontent . . . . all of it bad. The reason no one really talks about it is that there is no one face to put on it. The 1980s was all about Thatcher---one person pushing her views, her agenda, and her belief that society was dead.

Heath, Wilson, Callaghan, and all the power-hungry fat union bosses were all just heads of the hydra rather than representing the whole monster.

Thatcher in a sentence- hardworking people in Tory toffs' pockets.
