Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes is based on a forthcoming comic book (bandwagon ahoy!) that reworks the Holmes mythology and highlights some of his less savoury aspects - his opium habit etc. So Downey's investment isn't quite so surprising.

Lock, Stock and Smoking Crack, perhaps.
