Bring back hanging...it's cheaper than shooting, lethal injection or electrocution.

Castration!!
Kill 2 birds with one stone.
Even the thickest of these scum will understand that, and it will act as a real deterrent.
And if they still go ahead, at least they won't be able to father any other lowlifes into the world.

It costs serious money to put someone to the chair. They appeal, and appeal, and appeal, and those who have all their appeals turned down and who finally go to the chair, normally get fried about 20 years after they were first convicted. I do think life imprisonment without parole is a much worse punishment because the person really feels it. If they're dead they wont know anything about it.

Appeals, max? People round here won't stand for appeals!
Their lust for blood and revenge is insatiable; maybe you could psychoanalyse why they're this way?

In the liberal West, appeals and appeals will be the order of the day. Being on Death Row in the USA goes on for years and years, and with all the appeals they do, it costs literally millions to execute them. I've never undersood why in America they have loads of people who are serving life without parole, and here we only have about a dozen people. In fact we don't really have any as such - but it will turn out to be that due to constant media pressure during the time they serve in jail. If the media keeps the whole thing alive (think Myra Hindley, Ian Brady - and what is bound to happen to Ian Huntley as the decades go on) then sucessive Home Secretaries wont release the person and they'll die in jail. In the USA there are thousands of people who it was decided the day they were sentenced that they would never get paroled. It's differnt here for some reason.

I am amazed that Wee Gordy hasn't used the same formula that Nulab came up with to stop gun crime so successfully when they came to power, Namely, Banning all legally held knives.

Terry is on the right line, stating what most people think.
Personally, if anyone is caught with a knife, it'd be a 2 year jail term. No ifs or buts.
If anyone uses it, then they're looking at 5 years minimum, but if its used in a murder, then a life tariff.
All the liberal do-gooders/Human Rights Groups should be told to wind their necks in on this one as well, and none of this time off/parole, you should set examples and stick to them, otherwise you might not as well bother

Oh, when I used to chef, my knives HAD to be in a secure and locked box when I caught the tube. Looking back, I'd have loved to been accosted by some thuggish little scroat waving his mums potato knife at me while I 'did a Crocodile Dundee' with 'Thats not a knife, now THIS is a knife!!' as I showed him my 14" butcher machette knife

I totally agree Ace.
One of the most sensible posts i have seen on the subject.
Unfortunately we all know this will never happen due to the liberal do-gooders in this country
Roll on a party that puts the ordinary people of this country first
