I still don't think you're really getting my point. It's not about who's getting the best deal in this immoral transaction, nor is it about the politics of the war, and who's right/wrong.

It's immoral from Israel as they are clearly sending the message: Captured soldiers are worth the exact same, dead or alive. This is immoral. Life is supposed to be precious. The reason we spend billions on medicine is because life is precious. the reason we have human rights is because the quality of life is also very important. Now, Israel are saying, "fuck that?all bodies are worth the same to us, whether they're alive or dead." This puts future prisoners of war in jeopardy; an important point of keeping enemy soldiers alive is because they can be used to get back your own men. If dead soldiers are worth the same when it comes to bargaining with an enemy, will it set a horrific trend of killing prisoners of war? A dead prisoner doesn't need to be fed, need as much room, or guarded as keenly. Resources are paramount in war, as is manpower, so wasting both on prisoners puts you at a disadvantage if you keep your captives alive, while your enemy kills theirs.

Coming away from Israel's immorality, and stupidity, and onto Hezbollah's. Nearly every war in history gave the enemy time to collect their dead before the next battle. this goes right back to ancient Greek battles. The dead was worth no military advantage and so it was the only civilised thing, in a war, that this unwritten rule existed. Now, it seems, it's absolutely fine to use dead bodies as bargaining chips.

Maybe this won't set a dangerous precedent -I certainly hope so- but i do find it abhorrent that both sides are being totally immoral in this way.

Sam, these Israeli soldiers were already dead, they simply wanted the bodies back for burial. if the israeli's were willing to trade all the hezbollah fighters both dead and alive, sureley it shows how much they value a soldiers return, wether they are dead or alive. I agree however both sides are imoral for failing to put a stop to this conflict.
