"He knew where she lived he stalked her"

Any proof of this?

As far as I can see Jill Dando was killed by a professional, not someone like Barry George who couldn't even organise his way to the toilet, and used to shit on the floor of his flat.

The only solid piece of evidence the police ever had was the speck of so-called firearms residue found in his coat pocket. Now that has, officially, been deemed to have no evidentiary value, they basically have nothing on him. He was the local weirdo who got pulled when all else failed. It's happened before, and it will happen again.

"That still takes a lot of organisational skills to
1/ Get the gun
2/ FInd out where Jil Dando Lived
3/ Find out when she was in
4/ Have at least basic shooting skills
5/ Manage to make a get away."

Well number 1 can be discounted because he told police he bought a gun for ?55. So he was obviously capable of doing that.

Number 2 - not that difficult since he was a stalker and she lived locally to him.

Number 3 doesn't add up either. To find out if Jill Dando was in all he had to do was ring the doorbell.

Number 4 - basic shooting skills? Even chimps can be taught to pull a trigger. These days chimps can use computers. So can pigeons by the way.

Number 5 - manage to get away? Well he didn't live that far away, so all he had to do was walk home.

Hmmm.... Maybe Arch Stanton needs to clear his head and have a re-think.

Actually, I've just re-checked the facts of the case and it seems that number 3 is completely non-applicable.

Find out when Jill dando was in? Apparently she had been out that morning and was shot as she returned home, presumably by someone who had been waiting around for her.

That demolishes Arch Stanton's number 3.

He bought a blank firing replica years before Jill Dando was shot. Barry George didn't have the skill to use the toilet properly, much less convert a blank firer into a working gun.

Are you aware of the concept of evidence? The fact that Barry George lived a couple of streets from Jill Dando and was the local weirdo does not mean that he killed her. He behaved strangely because he is a very strange man, who suffers from several types of brain damage. In the middle ages than might have got him burned at the stake as a witch, but I'd like to think that these days you need some actual evidence to convict a man of murder.

"As far as I can see Jill Dando was killed by a professional"

Intersting opinion Robches.

However, professionals don't usually gun people down in a very public location in the middle of the day. Too much chance of witnesses, don't you think?

In fact not only was it a public location, but being an ordinary street there was nowhere to hide.

Also a car which could have provided some cover wasn't used and the murderer had to hang around on foot.

No getaway car? How professional was that? It's hard to imagine a professional making a hit and then having to flee on foot.

The muzzle also made contact with the victim - contrary to a professional killer?s work, as it leaves unwanted forensic evidence.

In addition, the firearm used appeared to be a modified weapon - designed to fire blanks, but modified to fire live rounds. Not exactly the kind of weapon used by professionals.

And the bullets were homemade - how many professionals have difficulty finding real ammunition?

The killer also got really lucky, as Dando had moved in with her fiance and no longer visited her own home very often. It was something of a fluke that she turned up when she did and someone hanging around got lucky.

Do professionals hang around on the off chance that someone will show up? Dando had not planned to visit her home that day, so her movements could not have been known or predicted.

It's rather amusing to think of this "professional" hanging around on the off chance, with his homemade weapon and without a getaway car, and having to leg it down the street after the murder which was carried out in broad daylight, with the great risk of witnesses.

On the other hand, perhaps Robches has an explanation for all of this?
