It's hard to say anything against common opinion on this without giving the view of a lack of sympathy for the family, which I have.

Thing is I can't help wondering how many of the mouthy dickheads who choose to post just to be cool and slag the Police for the sake of it would actually run into anywhere if they knew or even thought a bomb was in it.

My personal opinion is that they would be climbing over people to get away.

I also feel that if a member from the family of the key witness had been blown up she would have been as eager to get in front of the cameras about it as she is to stand up now.

What the Police did was clearly wrong and heads should roll for it but what concerns me more than anything is that if in the same situation next time, bearing in mind that officers are already saying fuck that to a lot of things, if they may feel it better to do nothing than get the abuse etc they currently are.

I suspect there would be far greater 'outrage' if that did occur and I for one am just glad I am not in a position to make such a huge decision.

He was an illegal immigrant and most the family here now are being funded by us to carry on this case. We know no more now than we did a week after it happened. If this had happened in Brazil it would have been swept under the carpet within a month - but here we have the poncy human rights lawyers, the self styled spokesmen and any other tom, dick or harry who thinks they can make a nice living out of carrying it for as long as possible. What is that fat cousin doing here anyway? I bet she's got permanent residence soon - probably shacked up with one of those street-wise mouthy 'advisors' who like slagging the police off at any opportunity, I'd like to know a bit about their backgrounds - aye, keepin' it real, real dumb and raking in the cash/publicity down the ghetto.

"They are supposed to shout 'Armed Police', which they didn't do."

Of course since the police thought they were in danger of being blown up, they made mistakes and didn't carry out a text book operation.

Perhaps you would have done it better Reggie Perrin? Our hero!

Or perhaps you'd have been too busy running away?

In Israel where this kind of situation occurs frequently, the police were understandably nervous when first challenging suspected suicide bombers and often made mistakes, but they have got a lot better with practice, and they get a lot of practice since suicide bombers in Israel are common. Practice makes perfect, as they say.

"I wouldn't like to compare policing in the UK with the trigger-happy kind they have in Israel"

When it comes to shootings in error, if you compare our police to almost any other police force in the world, not just Israel, you'll find in comparison to others that our police come out looking pretty good.

That doesn't mean of course that they shouldn't try to be even better, as even one mistake is a tragedy.
