Re: Thatcher on the Drums
steve, she said many times in the 1980's that she would never meet him because he was a terrorist. Did you know that Mandela is still blacklisted by Washington? He has never been to The White House to the best of my knowledge. The American Government have the same view that Thatcher had. You should read up on Mandela, he was hardly like Ghandi. The ANC and him did very nasty things, killed lots of people. For some reason the world's media have glossed all of this over and have presented Mandela as being some kind of placid gentle guy. If one of your relatives had had a car type put round their neck, then had petrol poured all over them, then someone lights it, I don't think you would be very favourable towards Mandela and the ANC either. That is not a very nice way to die. They also carried out many bombings, had links to communist nations, killed white landowners (many of whom had done great things to help the black people - paid for schools and hospitals to be built for them and given many of them jobs) and so on. Mandela would have been out of prison 5 years earlier if he had renounced the armed struggle, but he refused. He was not released until 1990 but would have been out in 1985 if he had done that.

Re: Thatcher on the Drums
captain wow, on the issue of who is a terrorist and who is not it is all down to which side of the fence someone is on. One person's terrorist is another persons freedom fighter - as the old saying goes. Cromwell would have been seen as a freedom fighter if he was targeting those who deserved to be targeted. It is when people kill civilians and kids - people who had nothing to do with the thing they are trying to change in the society - that is when they become bad. And the reason there was no mention of anything about what the white racist nasty governmnet of S Africa did was because that didn't come up in the specific thing we were talking about. It was just about Mandela. Lastly, I think he IS still blacklisted by Washington. I dont think he has ever been there.

Consequently, Pete and Roger finally agreed to close the band down.

Fear not, Deano! You're not going mad, for it does indeed exist. And yes, it is at Abbey Road.

Thank you so much for digging that out Mr Last Word.
I was starting to wonder if my memory was now totally stuffed through alcohol abuse. Thanks to you, I can continue supporting the Scottish economy.
