I remember Thatcher capitalising on the Falklands win. She even organised a big military procession through London, largely to increase support for herself. This was proven by the fact she took the salute - something that is meant to be done by the Head of State.

Yep, that's the way I see it too.
Carrington's resignation and his subsequent staements were
the evidence that really damned her over the Falklands.

Cameron worries me in much the same way as Broon does.
To a degree the current probs. weren't of B's making [cheers
again, USA, for another 'friendly-fire' crisis....] but I doubt
DC would be any better at spotting a coming storm than GB.
The latter, for a supposed expert, seems curiously thick.
Yet another case of a man being educated beyond his intelligence.
Anyone with half a brain realises that 'endogenous growth theory'
[be it neo-classical, Doric or Ionian....] and indeed the whole of
economics in general is a half-baked pseudo-science from which
no firm predictions or hypotheses can ever be derived. The last
decent book on the subject was Adam Smith's- and most of the
time even he was only stating the bleeding obvious.
A lot like sociology, that other refuge of meagre intellects.

Well, if it's anthropology or ethnology I can't disagree.
"The proper study of man is man", and all that- although I prefer
Humans not be so limited in their pihilosophical aims : -)
But sociology 'proper' is so hedged about with contradictions, sheer
rubbish and impenetrable jargon that I have no truck with it all.
There's not even a clear definition of it.
