agreed you cannot start adding Cricket players into the mix or else "we" will need to start adding some of our Olympic and World Championship Curlers into the fray .... so please take that fat bastard Beefy out of your list ASAP.

I was going to say surely Steve Redgrave - the "greatest olympian" ever....how about Jonathan Edwards - maybe the most dominant sportsman of their specialism in terms of records (although not necessarily overall career wins etc) ?

I did think about Lennox but plumped for Joe as the token boxer since he was world champion for an eternity and undefeated - that truly has global significance.

Lennox got beaten on at least a couple of occasions to chumps that he should have outclassed if he'd had his mind on the task fully.
