I have no problem with the concept of compassion for a man who apparently does not have long to live. However, what about compassion for the family and friends of PC Yvonne Fletcher? She was killed in 1984 by gunfire coming from the Libyan embassy during a small demonstration. No-one has ever been charged for this cold-blooded murder. The Scottish Justice Minister should have taken the line with the Libyans that we are prepared to show compassion for Al Megrahi if in return, the Libyans give up the individual(s) responsible for her death.

Politics is a dirty business. It's absurd when people like Milliband describe motives attributed to the government as 'deeply offensive' .. why would they be offensive ? We're not really dealing with men of principle.
