Well, it IS a tough job, and I accept that they are surrendering
privacy for themselves [and their nearest and dearest] to the
depredations of the popular press, for which some compensation
ought to be offered.
Ideally I'd like to see their salaries linked to top-grade Civil
Servants'- which, in the end, is all that they are. I'd add a gagging-
clause that prevents them from taking any City job [10 years ex-post?]
in which they had had influence during their governmental service, and
a book-ban until they reached retirement age [that's OUR R/A, not
theirs].
